CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board, was held in the Council Buildings, on Monday evening. Present—Messrs Milroy (Chairman), Aitchison, Dale, Hirst, Taplin, and Adams. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Correspondence included—Letter from G. D. Haraerton, acknowledging receipt of Sherwood’s and Adams’ deeds; from same, as to remarks made about him at last meeting; from Town Clerk, Wanganui,. z - e Hospital matters—reply to be sent that Hospital affairs are at present under the control of the County Council; from W. Dixon, asking for levels for building purposes —to be informed that plans of footpaths can be seen at the Board’s office on Tuesdays and Thursdays; from Land fax Commissioner, for copy of 'rate roll, and names of present, and future valuator; from J. Schultz, for permission to erect a"verandah —■ referred to the Patea County Council; from T. Hajuvood, jun., stating his intention to build on Stafford-street, and asking for line of street—to be informed that Board was not responsible for pegs on private properties, and declines to employ a surveyor to find correct lines for parlies wishing ;to build; from WDale, asking for levels for building purposes. The Inspector of Nuisances reported' that 12 horses had been impounded during the month, fees for which the poundkeeper was responsible. Proposed by Mr Aitchison, seconded b3 T Mr Hirst, and carried, That the Clerk reply to Mr Hamer ton’s letter of the 18th November, and state the grounds of dissatisfaction expressed by some members of the Board at last meeting, in reference to delays with deeds, supposed to have arisen from Mr Hamcrton’a neglect.” Proposed Mr Taplin, seconded by Mr Aitchison, and carried on division, after amendment, “ That Mr D. M. Harris be reappointed Valuator for the year ending 31st August, 1873, at a salary of £7.”—Ayes : Milroy, Adams, Dale, Aitchison. TaplinNoes: iiirri.
It was resolved to hold a special meeting on the l'-Mh instant, to receive tenders for works advertised. Proposed by Mr Milroy, (seconded by Mr Taplin. and carried, That the Engineers be requested to take the levels of Lincoln, Middlesex, and Rutland streets. Statement of accounts for November showed —Receipts: Balance on Ist November, £347 7s l id; rents from town leases, £45 10s scl: total, ’£392 18s 4d. 1 Expenditure: Labor, contracts, &c.. £lO3 7s 7d—leaving a balance of £289 10s Od. The Works Committee reported that £5 12s had been spent in clearing out water tables, dressing footpaths, &c.; that two loads of gravel had been laid on oast side of Taranaki Load, to repair damage done by rain; and that tenders had been called for three portions of work authorised by the Board. Accounts passed—H. Young, labor, £2 12s; Y7. Wilson, labor, £3. The meeting adjourned.
