THE LATE SHOW.

(To the Editor of the Patka Mail.) Sir, — Fiie late Pa tea Agricultural Slmw is acknowledged, as a whole, to.be a failure. I will not say anything aiient the exhibits—many of them were really good, and from the capabilities of the district should have been more numerous. The arrangements, however, from beginning to' end, were most unbusiness-iike and unsatisfactory. Why was not the gate and booth advertised as on other oeca-ion- 4 ? The same niggardly spirit existed throughnut, and eventuated in placing the luncheon and booth in the hands of novices —hence the rough and uncouth appearance both inside and out of the nondescript, ycelpt.“a booth,” and the way in which everything - was dispensed therein. The prices charged were the usual ones, and a good profit was no doubt made bs* the sale, iu which the Society, as a body, should have participated. At the preceding Show, much dissatisfaction was expressed at tire way _ the dinner was put on. What were the prices? If on the same magnificent scale as tlie present, the le-s said the better. On the present occasion a booth was not to be erected on the ground, but a substantial luncheon provided in the Hall, in which tables and seats bad to he erected. Forty partakers were to be guaranteed, and tbe charge per head was to be 2s 6d, drinks included, which I think means £5. The dinner was to be in Patea, and was to be the best possible, with wines, spirits, beer, ami the usual etceteras, ad lib. Again there was a hitch —the thing was hawked all over the place, and, as a matter of course, fell through—thus disappointing everyone, on losing an opportunity not easily obtained. If the Society is to flourish, its working management must be in other and better bauds, and a greater amount of spirit and liberality shown than on this last miserable meeting.—l am. &c., - VINDEX.
