H AWERA.

(from our own correspondent.) A CRICKET match was played at Waihi on Wednesday last, between tiie Civilians v A. C. Force. The Civilians made 147 runs in their first innings, 62 of which were contributed by Ividdiford, who played a magnificent not-oul innings. The A.C.’s scored in their turn 123, of which 42 were made by Ollivier, who was in splendid form, and would no doubt have made many more had he not been unfortunately run out. The bowling and fielding of the Civilians was very bad, especially the bowling, bnt as it is the first practice of the season, there is plenty of time for improvement. An agreement was made to finish the match on the following day, and both teams came up to time and wore about to commence plav, when a telegram arrived for Major Tnke, the result of which was that the A.C. had to abandon the willow for the rifle, and march at once for the Waimate. It appears that I was misinformed when I stated in my last that Mr Gibson had subscribed a guinea to the Club, and had become an bon member. However, I have no doubt that as the statement has been made public, for which be has received all honor and credit for his liberal donation, that he will not now forfeit bis reputation, and that the guinea will be forthcoming. Tire Eider Troupe appeared at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening to a good bouse, and performed to the satisfaction of the audience. They also played again on Thursday evening. Although a large number of new seats ha ve been added to the Presbyterian Church to supply the wants of the vapidly increasing congregation, they are yet inadequate to the demand made upon them, as, on Sunday evening, numbers bad to stand during the service, arid although the largest Church in the Township it will shortly need to be enlarged to meet the requirements of the place.
