WHAKAMARA ROAD LINES.

(To the Editor of the J’atica Mail.) Sir,—The genera! opinion of those residing on the Whak.umira Block is that both “Do Plight” ami ‘‘Bine Gum” arc wrong in their proposals for roadmaking at Whakamara. One thing is certain, if the Noonan Load was opened as “ Blue Gum ” proposes, it would prove a curse to both the old. and new blocks, with the exception of about four or five non-resi-dents, who would bo solely beneiitted at expense of nearly all the cash and deferred payment purchasers. “ Bine Gum ” goes onto say if the £GSO was spent on the Noonan "Hoad, ho believes it would be to (he advantage of the back deferred payment sections. It is the opinion of those chiefly interested, that the advantage would bo in favor of the four or live non-residents and to the disadvantage of the residents on the block. “ Blue Gmn ” likewise believes bis proposal would give the most satisfaction. He should have added—to the four or five alluded to above. “Bine Gmn” thinks the owners on the Noonan Hoad are making’ more improvements than any otheis on the block. If “Blue Gmn” really thinks as ho says, I can assure him that he would experience some difficulty in persuading any practical person to believe him. “ Blue Gum ” mentions a fact, namely, that there are more deferred payment sections than the ones he alludes to; but ho says nothing about another matter, equally true, namely, that sections 1, 2, 3, and 4, consisting of about 282 acres, pay £3,967, leaving the balance of deferred payment land, 1,020 acres, to pay £1,938, making a total of £5,905. Does “Blue Gum ” think the speculative owners arc the only persons that would have houses on their land if they had a good road ? I will just remind “Blue Gum” there are persons residing on the block that have not waited for other people to make roads to enhance the value of their land without doing something towards it themselves. I have been informed that “ Blue Gum,” has not confined himself to facts when he says 950 acres require the Noonan Road, against 600 acres requiring the Ingahape Road, but not having a plan of the old block cannot say. One thing I am certain of, namely, there are twenty-six residents requiring the Ingahapi Road against three requiring the Noonan Road.—l am, &c. PAIR PLAY.
