CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ENTERPRISER.
The following is a copy of a telegram received yesterday : “ Ashburton, August 23. Clack, Patea. “ Black v Ivess.—lf my costs Ashburton to Patea, awarded by Judge at Wanganui, bo not paid forthwith, distress warrant will issue.
“ Joseph Ivess.”
After the above case was decided, Mr A. Black waited on the Clerk of the Court, Carlyle, and paid all demands made. The question of Mr. Ivess’ costs from Ashburton to Patea, which, with his usual modesty, he claimed, was reserved by the Judge as a point, for consideration. From then to the receipt of the above telegram Mr Black has had no intimation from the Court, or from Mr Ivess, that the Judge had ordered payment of the costs referred to above. Upon intimation from the right quarter that payment is to be made, the cash will bo promptly paid. The above is a fair sample of the pleasant manner Mr Ivess has of transacting business with unfortunates who lease his newspaper plants. If rent should happen not to be' down to the tick of time, threats (as per sample above) are indulged in. We can produce specimens if required.
