CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary mooting of the above Board was held in the Council Buildings, mi M-tHlOay rrr'bßlil IViebb! o Milroy (Chairman), Aitchison, Dale, Adams, Hirst, and Williams. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Correspondence included—Letter from County Council, stating that the Council had not adopted report of Committee re main road through Carlyle; from W. Williams, f°r permission to transfer sections 6 and 14, Block 40, to W. Howitt—granted; from Messrs Dale and Aitchison, for timber to bo procured; from D. G. Fraser, re inspection of footpath contracts in Unthanks Road and Stafford-street ; from W. Cowern, with conditions of sale of leases and charges, £7 8s 9d ; from Clerk County Council, for the sum of £64 18s, proceeds of sale, &c. ; from same, requesting Board to hand over all Cemetery money and property to the Trustees—■agreed to; from D. Coutts, for permission to transfer sections 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Block 8, to Richard Dickson—granted ; from R. Dickson, asking for transfer; from J. Mercer, for permission to fence part of Stafford-strect, adjoining Block s—ordered to stand over one month, and Mr Wright to be informed ; from G. D. Hamerton, stating he would prepare deeds at 6s 8d each, provided eleven were forwarded ; from Duncan & York, about timber ; from Mr Trcgcar, in explanation of plans of town level; from Sergeant Whelan (Inspector of Nuisances), reporting that a resident had been requested to cover an open well near main thoroughfare, but it had not been properly done, and was still dangerous for children.—Seven horses and two cows had been impounded during the month, and fees handed over to ponndkeeper. Motion by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Adams, and lost, “ That the County Council be asked to allow the Town Board to hold its meetings in the Council meeting room,” Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Adams, and lost, “ That this Board endeavor to obtain borrowing powers curing the present session of the House of Representatives.” Proposed by Mr Aitchison, seconded by Mr Williams, and lost, “ That the Engineer be instructed to supply plans of footpaths on Bedford-street, showing the necessary cuttings, fillings, and crossings, in connection with plans already supplied ; and also plans of Cornwall, Kent, York, and Rutland-streets; and that the whole plans taken together, when completed, be considered for approval or otherwise by this Board.” The Public Works committee reported having had gravel placed on York-street and footpaths in Taranaki Road repaired. Gravel paid 6d per load extra on account of bad state of roads to pits. Labor had also been employed spreading gravel and filling in ruts and making water tables. At the request of Mr Johnson, the contractor for the footpaths on Unthanks Road ami Stafford-street. the committee inspected the same, and find* ing a difference between the quantity of gravel laid and that mentioned in specifications considered it best to leave it for the Engineer to see to. Mr Tregoar had written to the contractor on the matter. Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Adams, and lost, That an account be sent in to the Patea Harbor Board for 15s, value of firewood used by that body belonging to this Board.” Statement of accounts for month of July showed Receipts—Balance from June, £134 7s lid; receipts during July, £137 4ssd. Expenditure daring July, £2l Os lid, leaving a balance of £250 11s SJ. Accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
