PATEA EAST ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board, was held at Carlyle on Monday last. Present—Rev A. Dasent (chaiiroan), Gibson. Derretfc, A. Gower, Nicholson, and Bremer. Minutes of previous’.meeting read and confirmed^ Correspondence included—Letter from Oliver Robinson enclosing drawing of Pntahi contract and account for culverts, mid asking for payment; from John Duncan staling that 20 or 30 chains falling and clearing on road at Okntuku between Howie's bouse and Hutchison's track had been left standing, and suggesting that to complete the road and to prevent damage to fences by falling trees the length of road named should be finished—ordered to lie on the table ; from Captain Wray, on behalf oi himself and others, offering to waive all objection to Board taking road through sections 110 to 113 and 122, Whenuakura block, provided same was fenced and lino agreed to by Board and owners, and cancellation of five percent, clause in Crown grant.; It was pointed,ont that only five per cent, of land was allowed for road purposes which whuld give road only bal chain wide. Ten per cent, of land offered by owners would give road one chain 0 wide; from J. G. Howie claiming £5 a for damage done to their fence by falling trees; from W. M. White, Dunedin, enclosing catalogue of drain tiles, &c; trom D. G. Fraser certifying to Robinson’s contract, Pntahi Road, having been satisfactorily performed. Proposed by Mr Gibson, seconded by Mr Derrctt, and carried, That Mr Howie be informed that tVie Board will net hold itself responsible for any damage done by the contractor.” Proposed by Mr Gibson, seconded by Mr Nicholson, and carried, “ That the contractor be informed of Mr Howie’s claim, and request to make good any damage done.”

Proposed by Mr Gibson, seconded by Mr A. Bremer, and carried, “ That the Chairman, Mr Derrett, and the mover, meet Captain Wray, and together with him inspect the proposed road, and report at next meeting.” Statement of accounts for July showed Receipts: Balance from May, £lB4 12s 3d ; rates collected during July, £7 Is 2d. Expenditure during June and July, £lls 16s 4J. Leaving a balance of £75 17s Id. Accounts were passed ns follows—O. Robinson, £6 10s; J. Kannte, £3 4s ; W. Watkins, £3O 3s 9d ; Patea Mail, £5 18s 6d. Meeting adjourned.
