[Reuter’s Telegram to Press Agency.] LONDON. July 29. The Marquis of Lome was offered (and accepted) the Governor-General-ship of Canada. There lias boon more hard fighting at Transvaal. The British loss is reported severe. At tbe Mansion House banquet, Lord Beaconsfiekl defended the Anglo-Turkish Convention, on the. ground that the Berlin treaty was insufficient of itself to maintain European peace.
