MR FOOKES' VIEW.
(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) account you published in ot 3rd July, of the petition against New Plymouth Harbor Board election, contains much that is not true and suppresses much that is true. Any person taking an interest in the matter, should read the evidence as printed in both Taranaki papers, and a letter by myself in Taranaki Herald of 2Cth June; they will then be satisfied that the election was an unfair one, that some persons were allowed as many as 5 votes and others none, though each were entitled only to one; that I ivas entitled to vote, but a wrong roll was used by direction of Mr Kelly, a candidate ; and that the election was rotten from one end to the other, although the petition failed to upset it, through one of the very irregularities that occurred. Patea people are a little interested as the member lor Egmont does not come ■out of the affair with quite clean hands. —I am, &c., A. CRACROFT FOOKES. New Plymouth, Bth July, 1878.
