RAILWAY PETITION.
The petition latel}* forwarded by J. B - Walkinton, Esq., of Waverley, on behalf of himself and other settlers, urging Government to proceed with railway works on this coast, has received acknowledgment from the officer of Public Works. We arc indebted to Mr Walkinton for the following copy of reply to Railway Petition which was received by that gentleman on Monday ; ' “ Public Works Office, “ Wellington, July 4th, 1878. “ Sir,—l am directed by the bon the Minister for Public Works to acknowledge the receipt of a memorial-from the ratepayers of Waverley urging the speedy construction of tho line from Taranaki to Wanganui, and in reply to inform you that tiie same will receive due consideration by the Government.—l am &c., “ John. Knowles, “ Under-Secretary for Public Works.”
