HOW DEATH CAUSED.

(To the Editor of the Mail.)

Sin, —From report in your last, “ Death from exposure while in a weak slate of health,” was the verdict given at Mountain in Hudson’s ease. We do not. question verdict that it was in accordance with one part (medical) of evidence. That tbs man died from exposure, may have been, and was, I. hove no doubt, the immediate cause of death. But there are first and second causes —the second the consequence of the first.

According to evidence Hudson had taken some drink before leaving the public-house, and took bottles of whisky with him. Bart of one was drunk under the Manawopo bridge, and then Hobbs had to help Hudson Up the hill and left him at the top—lie (Hobbs) going to look for a horse to take Hudson to his tent. Hobbs, according to Mr Bailey,’was half drunk when- he came to his house. Does it not look like drunk and incapable on the part of Hudson, and account in a great measure for the second bottle, which has not been found as yet. Sir, I have no doubt this death will be entered on the roll according to verdict, “ Death from exposure,” but to call a horse a horse, was not alcohol the cause of death ?—I am, &c., ONE who thinks such things ought not to be winked at.
