IMPASSABLE ROADS.

(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.)

Sir, —Some six months ago, there was a great struggle with the settlers of Norman by ami Hawera to know which way the road would go from Ilawcrn to Taranaki. Some wanted the old Keteniarac Load, others the line through Noi man byTowns hip; and the remainder were anxious for the road to be made on line followed by the telegraph polos.

While all. this selfish struggle was going on, so was the beautiful summer weather, during which only was it possible for road-making to*be successfullycarried on. As a consequence, bore we are now, in a most deplorable state. Tim tier is wanted in every quarter, and unless the County Council will spend a few pounds and fa cine the cutting at Brett’s old house, all traffic must stop.

This slate of affairs would hot have occurred only for tin; opposition that has been' going on as to what route should bo adopted, as Lite Blond Board had called for tenders for the said cutting, and just at that lime, the County Council adopted the road through Nonnauby, tints stopping tiio Koad Board from proceeding, and this is the 13x wo are in. The road is a disgrace and a drawback to the whole district. —I am, &c.,

I?. WILSON.
