TARANAKI ROAD IMPROVEMENTS.

Joint committees of the Carlyle Town Board and County Council met in the Council Chambers yesterday morning, to consult about the main line of road running through Carlyle.

After a short consultation the two committees separated, and resolutions were adopted, which will be submitted to full meetings of the respective bodies for consideration.

Tho Town Board committee comprised Messrs Milroy, Taplin, and Aitchison. On the motion of Mr Taplin, seconded by Mr Aitcliison, it was resolved, “ That the deputation of the Carlyle Town Board beg to submit the following resolution to the County Council deputation for the makng and improving of the main line of road through the township, namely—lst. That the Board . and Council amalgamate in making and gravelling the road its full width, say, from Unthanks Road to the lower side of Devon-street, each to bear half tho cost. Work to be superintended by the Council’s Forman of Works. 2nd. That tho County Council allow the Town Board £IOO per annum to maintain tho main line of road running through the township, such payment to be made from Ist January, 1879.” Tho County Council committee comprised Messrs Bridge, Dale, Honeyfield, and Sherwood. The following proposition by Mr Sherwood, seconded by Mr Bridge, was agreed to, “ That the Carlyle Town Board be allowed to take over the main road within the town, and that all town rates and subsidies thereon be paid over to the Town Board, This arrangement to come into force on Ist July, but not to apply to back rates or subsidies.”
