NEW PLYMOUTH. May 7. At the Waste Lands Board a letter from Captain Wray was read re reserves at Hawera for Public Library. The Board requested Captain Wray to send plan of reserve, showing its position. Land sold at Patea in April was 852 acres; value, £1,673. Sir John Goode left by coach this morning for Pataa. In the Supreme Court to-day, Thomas Quinlivan, whose case has occupied the court all day, the jmy brought in a verdict of not guilty, owing it is believed, to the prosecution not thoroughly proving the identity of the horse. The Urenui hotel was burnt down last night, owing to explosion of a kerosine lamp in the bar. Insurance in the Standard and Imperial—building, £BOO, stock, £2O0 —equally divided between the two offices.
