SIR JOHN COODE AND PATEA RIVER.
The following is'copy of telegram received from Captain Fairchild, of the government steamer Hinemoa, on Thursday;— “ Westport, May 2. “ Ciir-’nnan. “ Patea Harbor Board. l! Sir Jolm Coode will be at Patea about the 4th of v May. If you could arrange with the Clyde steamer to land him at Patea, from the Hinemoa, it would save time. It would be better than going by coach from Taranaki. ' Reply to Taranaki. “Jons Fairchild.” , Mr G. F. Sherwood, Chairman of the Harbor Board, replied that the ss Clyde would be off the Patea bar on Sunday morning, the sth instant, weather permitting-, but advised that Sir John Coode would do better to come overland from New 'Plymouth to Patea, as rough weather would prevent the Hinemoa being tendered, and so cause greater loss of time. Since the above was in type we have learned from tire Chairman of the Harbor Board that Sir John Coode was in New Plymouth yesterday'(Friday) arid that lie will' be likely to come by way of the Mountain Koad to-day.
