publication of the ejection of Mr Sherwood. In the Interpretation clause of the Local Elections Act, “ ‘ Public notice ’ means the publication in a newspaper commonly circulating in the district ,* and if there is no such newspaper, the publication by means of placards posted in -conspicuous places throughout the district.” Clause oil of the same Act says, “As soon'as con- 1 veilient.ly may be on or after the day of the poll, the Returning Oilicer shall give public notice, &c.” .Such public notice was not given in the case referred to.
I A Kentucky paper makes an earnest appeal for spring chickens in payment of subscriptions. It is amusing to occasionally find an ignorant person calling a newspaper a “ lying sheet.” If sheets were not made to lie in, what were they made for? What is the difference between an editor and his wife ? One sots articles to rights, and the other writes articles to set. A Yankee editor wishes no bodily harm to his subscribers, but he hopes that some of them in arrears will be seized with a remittent fever, A Minnesota editor says that a man came into his office to advertise for a lost dog, and such was the wonderful power of advertising, that the dog walked into the office while he was engaged Avriting out the advertisement.
