About one o’clock yesterday Major Turner was on the lawn opposite Lis residence, Carlyle, leading a horse by a rope. One of the boys was on tiie hoi sc The horse in some way got frightened and commenced backing, and showed inclination to rear. The Major clung to the rope, as long as he could, and before ho was aware of it his legs became entangled he was thrown to the ground, the horse still straining on the rope. On assistance being rendered one leg was found to be fractured in two or three places. Dr Croft was called in and on account of the serious nature of the breakage Dr Warren was also sent for and promptly attended. Wanganui letter pressed out.
