Telegram to Press Aq ency. ♦ — ■agent-general’s telegram. LONDON. February 14. The Russians are close to Constantinople. Theytbreaten occupation if the English fleet enter the Dardanelles. The fleet entered yesterday, despite the protest of Tufkcyq which is now fa ore Russian than English. Russia, among other terms of peace, demands a portion of Bessarabia', which may involve complications with Austria and Romnania. General excitement prevails here. —— LONDON. February 10. Lord Derby bad ari interview with Schouvaloff, and expressed the hope that no Russian troops were moving towards Gallipoli, whereby communication with the British Fleet and Constantinople might be threatened. Lord Derby said tho consequences of such a movement would be most serious, and lie nnist decline all responsibility' for such consequences. It is rumoured that tho terms of alliance between Turkey and Russia are that the latter assumes a protectorate. Earl Donoughmorc has been appointed Under-Secretary for Colonies. The steamer Metropolis has been wrecked on the coast of Carolina. One hundred lives lost. Russia suggested a conference at Brussels or Louisanne.
Disastrous fire took place at Trentsin—two thousand killed.
