Editor of the Pate.v Mail. Sir, — Will you he good enough to publish the enclosed for public information. You will probably remember that I showed you a copy of a letter I wrote, to the Government upon this subject when I was in Wellington, but inasmuch as it is necessarily somewhat voluminous, I will not now ask you to publish it. It is sufficient that the main point has been gained ; the next must bo the establishment of a Land Board within the County.—l am, &c., G. F. SHERWOOD. Sir, —I have the honour by direction of the Hon Minister of Lands to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated the 18th December last, and, in reply, to inform you that His Excellency the Governor' has issued a proclamation under the 24th section of “ The Land Act, 1877,” constituting the area included within the boundaries of the Patea County a Local Land District. j C. A. Wray, lias alsor been appointed District Land Officer. The Land Office of the District being situate at Carlyle. The proclamation is dated the 11th instant, and -will be published in the next issue of the New Zealand Gazettte. —I have, &c., H. J. IT. Elliot, Assistant to Under-Secretary. G. F. Please supply conditions of tender for steam subsidy for the Patea three hundred pounds voted 1877. Hon Mr Sheehan states Harbour Board may' invite tenders. G. F. Sherwood, Chairman Harbour Board. Government Buildings, February 19. G. F. Sherwood, Patea. H. M. Commissioner Customs instructs me to say there is no vote on Estimates for steam subsidy for Patea. W. Seed.
