PATEA WEST ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board Was held at the Board’s Office, Carlyle, on Monday last. Present: Messrs Mcßae (chairman), K. 11- Morgan, ,Wil sc*n,- Balmforth, E. J. -Morgan, and Hunter. Minutes of previous meeting read and conlirmcd. Correspondence read. ’ Letter from R. Clifford and Messrs Gold/ ing and Weeks asking for time for the competion of contracts; front P. Cheevers notitying that he was unable to cany out his contract on Tongahoo Bead, and requested the Board to take his case into consideration; from S. Taplin requesting the Board to refund him the sum of £1 i2s Id over-charge on account of rates; from T.White, Esq, forwarding draft for rates collected: from Public Works Department re Spence Load obstruction. Proposed by Mr E. R. Morgan, seconded by Mr P. Wilson, and carried That Messrs Golding and Weeks be allowed ah extension of lime for one month to complete contract on Upper Kakaramea Road, and that Mr Clifford be allowed two weeks from date to complete his contract on Ball Road. Proposed by Mr Balmforth, secondedly Mr A. Hunter, and carried by four to three votes, “Hint Mr Cheevers have the amount of his deposit on Tongahoe Road contract returned. An amendment proposed by Mr K. 11. IMorgan, seconded by Mr Hone3’tie!d, was lost, “That, the deposit be returned less 9s cost of advertising for fresh tenders, and 17s Gd extra amount paid lor present contract.” Proposed by Mr E. It. Morgan, and lapsed for want of a seconder,- “ That if Mr Taplin makes his application in a proper maimer the Board will consider the matter.” —Proposed hv Mr HonexTudd, seconded ly Mr Wilson,"and lost, “That Mr Tapliirs application be not entertained.”—Proposed ly Mr Hunter, seconded ly Mr Balmforth, and carried, “ That £1 12s Id he returned to Mr Taplin, being amount overpaid for rates.” Carried ly 4to 3 votes. Proposed ly Mr E. R. .Morgan, seconded ly Mr Mcßae, and carried, “That this Board consider that it is not necessary to issue notices with reference to the valuations made, more than the public notice iff the Patea Maid.” Tender was received from Mr G. A. Marchant for felling bush on Joll Road. Resolved, That the question of accepting or rejecting the tender bo left with Messrs Mcßae and limiter. Proposed ly Mr Balmforth,- seconded by .Mr Mcßae, and carried, “That, a sum of £7 be voted for widening and fencing the embankment on the Taumaha Road near Mr Peacock's resilience, to be spent under the supervision of Messrs E. J. Morgan and the mover.”
Accounts were passed for payment Meeting adjourned to March 11th.
