DOG TAX.
(To the Editor of the Pat rev Mail.) Sin, —I hear that some members of the County Council at their late meeting were desirous of putting a Tax on European dogs, at 10s per head, and no doubt the native dogs would have to go free. If the said members would advocate say a £1 on curs, and allow useful dogs, such as cattle and sheep dogs to go free, it would be more advantageous to the public, as any one that is in the habit of riding or driving through the townships are liable to be frightened by curs of dogs rushing at their horses. If the said Councillors would see that stray cattle arc cleared off the road during the nights they would be doing some good. At present, near Kakaramea, you may find a mob of about SO or 40 cattle in full charge of the road, and it is but with difficulty you can come to terms with them, to get past, and always at the risk of a capsize with your vehicle. Perhaps some of the said cattle belong to people that do not use the road and who have a voice in public affairs.—l am, &c., 0. W. H. T. RATEPAYER,
