W AIM ATE PLAINS AND MOUNTAIN HOAD. In response to enquiry made, T. Kelly, Esq., M.H.E., telegraphed as follows on Saturday last : “ Government Buildings, “ December 8, 1877, 4.30 p.m. “ J. Kenworthy, Carlyle, Patea. “ There is no intention on the part of the Government to abandon the confiscated lands. Deserves will of course be made for them to a reasonable extent. The surveys are to bo gone on with, “ As an instance of the good intention of the Government to the district, a vote of £14,000 has passed for the making of the Mountain Road, and the work will be proceeded with at an early date. _ Major Atkinson gave material aid in this, and Sir George Grey and Mr Shcekan strongly
