WANDERING CATTLE.

(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, —I wish through your paper to draw the attention of the County Council to the danger arising front cattle straying upon the roads in this neighbourhood; Last night I was called in great haste to Mokoia. Just by the bridge, at tiie foot Of that long and dangerous cutting, four miles from town, I was challenged by a bull, fortunately my mastiff dog soon sent it about its business. Upon-my return journey, however, I came in contact with a mob of six or seven, just about the same place. I had great difficulty, it being dark, to get past, the road being narrow, with a steep fall upon one side into the river, and a perpendicular hill side upon the other. I am informed that the bull in question charged twice at a horseman not long since. Now, sir, for the benefit of the public,' as well as myself, having, as you know, to travel at all hours of the night, sometimes —as extraordinary—at a gallop, I hope the Council will see at once, the necessity of putting a stop to this unlawful practice indulged in by some owners of cattle.—l am, &c.
