WEST ROAD BOARD.

(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) ' Sir, —Will you kindly allow me space in your columns to enlighten the ratepayers how we aie served by the Patea West Road Board regarding the upper portion of Kakaramea road. Some months ago, application was made to the Board then in office to make some sort of a track so that a dray could go to and fvo to Calico Town. Some of the members' suggested to the Board that a deviation was necessary to avoid a large gully. The Board appointed a committee, consisting of (I think) Messrs Peacock, E. R. Morgan, and Corrigan, to go and look at it, and report next meeting, which they did. Their rbport was favorable, so the Board went in for deviation on the strength of it. During the time it appears that it was thought advisable to get some practical opinion as well, before taking any further steps. The Board appointed Mr Fraser, surveyor, to go and draw a.plan, &c., which he did; but then it was decided to abandon the idea of deviating, and the ratepayers had to play to the tune of, I think, '£2 2s for Mr Fraser, as well as which there was the delay through the first-named gentlemen making such a report to the Board. On the 6th of May, the Board resolved “ That this Board impress on the new Board the necessity of opening up the original road.” Now, in the face of the resolution, what lias been done towards carrying out that proposition ? Now, gentlemen, the new Board (that is, the present one) consists of four members that were in favour of that resolution—Messrs E. J. Morgan, E. M. Honey field, A, Hunter, and E. R. Morgan. They passed that resolution, not knowing whether they would be reelected ; but they were, and yet they have not gone on with the work. I consider, as soon as they took office, that was a part of the first business ; but no, they seem to be looking some other way. I hope at the next election we shall have a change—-the old hands ought to have a spell.-—I am, &c., ON SUPFRANCE. Calico Town, August 16, 1877.
