PATEA JOCKEY CLUB.
A meeting of the Patea Jockey Club was held at the office of the Hon, Secretary (MrW. Cowern), on Monday last. Present —Dr. Croft, Messrs. Powdrell, C. Synxes, G. Doric, R. E. Mcßae, G. T. Potto, W. Gower, and A. Gower. Dr Croft was voted to the chair. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was resolved, That circulars be sent to defaulting members, requesting arrears of subscriptions to be paid up. On the motion of Mr Symes, seconded by Mr Potto, it was resolved, “ That Messrs G. Dtirie, Dr Cioft, and R. E. Mcßae, be appointed Trustees for the Club, and that all lands and properties of the Club be vested in them.” Mr A. Gower was elected a member of the Club.
It was proposed by Mr Dime, seconded by Mr A. Gower, i: That the next races be held at Wuverlcy, in consequence or the new racecourse not being ready in time. 1 ' An amendment, moved by Mr Mcßae, and seconded by D; Croft, was carried, “That the next races be held on the Patea District Jockey Club course, near Carlyle, fourteen days after the Wellington advertised lime for this year, owing to the difficulty of getting course in proper order at an earlier dale.” The following gentlemen were appointed Stewards, for the ensuing year : Dr Croft, C. Dune, R. E. Mcßae, C. Symes, J. Bourke, W. Gower, and J. D. Powdered. The following gentlemen wore appointed a Committee of the Chib for the ensuing year ;—Dr Croft, R. E. Mcßae, J. D. Powdered, W. S. Nicholson, and G. T. Potto. Three to form a quorum.
The Secretary was instructed'to write to the Comity Council, requesting that the Recreation ground at Wairoa. and the Racecourse at Mokia, be leased, as early as possible, and that the proceeds be handed over to the Club from year to year, less the charges for selling and collecting the same.
It was resolved that an agreement be drawn up of the new course, in terms of the report of the committee appointed to negotiate the same. The races, which are to be held on two days, were ordered to be advertised. The meeting adjourned.
A man at the East End calls himself on his card a “ temperance boot maker. The need of temperance boots is apparent, for, though they’re not generally drunk, it’s a notorious fact that they’re often very tight.
