BE JUST BEFORE YOU ARE GENEROUS.
HARBOUR BOARD. (TO THE EDITOR OF THE PATKA MAIL.) Sir —Reading some correspondence in your columns on the above subject, I was hoping the writers, or some others, would have stirred in the matter of getting a different way of forming the Harbour Board made during next session, for really, judging by the minutes of the Board’s last meeting, it is time an alteration was made, for they are going in for salaries again. Mr Henry Williamson proposed that £2O be paid towards paying Mr Sherwood’s expenses to Wellington, and it was carried unanimously. Then nominees Williamson, Wilson, and Sherwood (by virtue of Ins office), goes in for
charging public bodies tlie same for gravel as private persons. If private persons want gravel they can pay something more for it than public bodies, ns it enhances the value of their properly, but with public bodies it means public highways, where a great quantity is required. Why not give every facility for getting good streets through the town, not so many quagmires of mud but decently metaiied streets —■ I am &c. Citizen.
