BACK RATES.

(to the editor of the patea mail.) Sir,—l was rather disappointed while reading the minutes of tbe Patea Road Board, not seeing anything about the back rates, as their meeting was held about a fortnight after the time had expired for our Oovenunent Agent to have received all rates or sue for them.

If the rates arc all paid. well and good; but I fear they are not. The Agent notified to the ratepayers throng!) your paper, as long ago as the 10th of last March, and again in May, that they were to <bc paid. 1 saw in vonr issue of 2nd May, that-ltss than onc'half were unpaid, so if it took upwards of seven weeks to collect the smaller portion, I am radn-r doubtful it the larger portion was paid in eleven days. —I am, tic. liATMPaYICIi.
