ANONYMOUS WRITING.
{To the Editor of the Patka Mail.)
Sir, —During some of your late issues I have noticed, I may admit with sorrow, various attacks under assumed names, such as “Nemesis,” “ Mahomet,” &c., made upon (by inference) me. Happening to know pretty well the writers of these miserable effusions, and hoping they did not live in glass houses, and therefore would bring
something tangible forward, instead of taking the miserable shelter of a nom de ])lume, I waited to hear the grand finale. The charges insinuated against me amount to complicity in bringing forward a candidate named Wilson as a member of the Town r-1-.ia, hy inuendoes unmistakable, I am dragged through your columns before the public. In reply, I have to state —First: That previous to the nomination, I never spoke to Wilson on the subject. Secondly; If I had wished him to stand, I do not see why I should not. Thirdly: I think the electors are the responsible parties’ for returning their representatives. Fourthly: I did not on that occasion iirtend to record my vote iti his favour’; but were be to starrd at the coming election, I think he would have my vote in his favour, as I think him quite as trustworthy (if not so clever) as his maligners. According to my custom, I sign myself by my own name. JAMES HIRST.
