THINGS IN GENERAL.

(To the Editor of the Patka Mail.)

Sir, —Your columns of late have been occupied with correspondence not very edifying to your readers, neither are they calculatoJ to enliance the dig-niiy of >'Oiir paper to readers at a distance. The same might be said of some of the business transacted by the Comity Council. I am glad to sec that at least throe of those gentlemen are tired of the Middlemas, Joyce, and Sherwood question. Don’t"you think, Mr Editor, their_ time would be better occupied in drafting a “ Width of Tires Ordinance,” for really our roads are getting very much cut up. Might I ask “Watch Dog” what he thinks of the method of gravel depots on the road side ; or has his attention been so occupied with the hope that a vacancy might occur in the Council, and a new chairman be required, that ho has forgotten the interests of the ratepayers. I bog to differ with him in his idea of £SO being saved by change of chairman, but think £SO might have been saved by placing the gravel on the road at once. Could “ Watch Dog” tell me the cost of gravel per yard stacked near the brick yard and Mr Coutts’ gate, as I perceive there are two gravel pits in the immediate neighborhood. I think as ratepayers we will feel the shoe pinch shortly, and will wish that we had nevei- seen a County Council with all its attendant expenses.—l am, &c., RATEPAYER.
