LATEST WAR NEWS. LONDON. May 16. .Russian 7 despatches say their losses in the engagement near Batoura were trilling, while the Turkish were enormous. A division of the Russian army lias crossed the Danube, and have entered Dobrudscha. Tire engagement is now proceeding. May 17. Sir Stafford Northcote, in tiro House, said that although Russia might blockade and even invade Egypt, the policy of tiro Government was strict neutrality. There was no reason why England should fight when the road to India was untouched. Mr Gladstone’s motion was rejected by 354 to 233. Wolfe’s amendment, declaring that the House declines to entertain any 7 resolution hampering- tiro Government, without indicating an alternative policy 7 , was carried without a division.
