[Per Press Agency.] WELLINGTON. May 17. The sittings of the Court of Appeal have been suspended for the present, without having decided any case, in order to take a number of cases set down for hearing in the Divorce Court. The following vessels had arrived at London on May 8 From Melbourne—
Carlisle and Carlinay. From Napier— Loclmagar. From Lyttelton Waimea, From Wellington—Howrah. From Sydney —Faineotn. A meeting of the creditors of James O’Shea was held this afternoon. Ilis HabJMtoo arc ami there is a deficiency of £IB,OOO. It is proposed to declare a dividend of 4s 6d. llis accounts show a profit of £l,lOO in 1875, and a loss in 187G of £7,000. May 18. Mr McKellar, the Collector of Customs, has instituted criminal proceedings against Captain Bonner, who was in command of the steamer Tui when she ran into the Napier whilst going up the Foxtou river. The charge is that of drunkenness, and is laid under the, 242 nd danse of “ The Merchant Shipping Act, 1854,” which gives power to the Court to suspend the captain’s certificate. Samples of bread were weighed to-day by the Inspector of Weights and Measures. A few were found to be under weight, from one ounce to three but there were several over weight, in one case as much as three ounces. The Government Gazelle announces that the Governor in Council has fixed the following schedule us to pay and travelling allowance of the Armed Constabulary ; Sergeant-major, 10s ; sergeant, Ist class, 9s Gd ; sergeant, 2nd class, 9s ; sergeant, 3rd class, 8s Gd ; constables, Ist class, 8s ; constables, 2nd class, 7s Gd ; constables, 3rd class, 7s ; detectives, Ist class, 12s ; detectives, 2nd class, 11s ; detectives, 3rd class, 10s ; non-commissioned officers and constables in the reserve division to receive Is per diem less than the above rates. The travelling allowance of non-commissioned officers and constables is fixed at 6s per diem. Mr O’Rhea reports produce prices : —• Flour, £l6 to £l7 ; oats, 3s to 3s 3d ; bran, Is to Is Id ; wheat, 4s to 4s Gd ; hams, 10d to lid ; bacon, 9d ; cheese 74d; potatoes, £4; pollard, £7 10s; maize, 5s Gd, scarce. AUCKLAND. May 18. f The only additional particulars re the Ocean Mail, are as follows: —The vessel was wrecked on the 19th March., on the north-west side of tlje Oliatliam main island. A portion of the wool is on shore. The vessel’s bow is out of water, but the rest is submerged. It was blowing a heavy gale from the S.E at the time of the wreck. CHRISTCHURCH. May 18. Export quotations f.o.b. at Lyttelton— First quality milliner wheat, 6s to 6s 3d ; second, from 4s 9d to 5s Gd —market firm. Oats have advanced, and are firmly held for 3s. Stocks are not heavy, the yield being under expectations. Barley, 4s to 4s Gd, dull ; flour, £IG to £l7 ; bran, £4 10s ; sharps, £5 10s ; cheese, 7d ; potatoes, £3. Wheat shipments to England and Australia very heavy.
