THE DISPUTE.

(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, — On reading the Patea Mail of the 2nd instant, I see that Mr Sherwood stated in the Council at last meeting, that he was in a position to prove that his name was not even mentioned in the conversation that took place between Mr Middlemas and myself in front of Mr Gibson’s store, on the 18th April. 1 would not be astonished at anything this man would say or do. However, he is greatly mistaken, and he stated what was not true to the Council and public, as 1 am in a position to state that'his name was mentioned both by Mr Middlemas and myself; and I did complain to Mr Middlemas that I had not received justice at the hands of Mr Sherwood. I repeat the same now. What will he say next ? I want to know from Mr Sherwood what had abilities to do with the charge that Mr Middlemas brought against him. Was this not another attempt to hoodwink both the Council and the public ? I wrote my own letters, and were I to want assistance, would not he be the last man in existence I would call on tor aid ? Whore has he gone to now ? Is he gone to try and pave the way for the Grey and Bell district ; or is he gone to parade his rank and position at some place where he is not so well known as in Patea? Mr Middlemas states that he will try and clip one of Mr Sherwood’s wings at the next Council meeting. I am of opinion that both his wings want clipping, and I think at least, that the other wing will be pretty well plucked before lung.—l am, &c., RICHARD JOYCE. Whenuaknra, May 10, 1877.
