PATEA EDUCATION BOARD. The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held at Carlyle, on Monday last. Present—Messrs.!. Middlemas (Chairman); Milrny, Mcßae, Dale, Contis, Peacock, and the Secretary (W. Cowcrn). Minutes of last meeting read and continued. Mr Rhodes attended and complained that his child, seven years of age, had been chastised, with unusual severity, for talking in the Carlyle school, and described the appearance of the marks. Becrctary requested to write Mr Dyer as to complaint, ami request reply. On account of irregularities reported to the Board, Hocrctary was instructed to write circular letter to all teachers as to school closets. Resolved, That Mr Lee’s (Inspector of Schools), recommendation of honor certificates, l)o adopted. Application from Mr Thomson, as teacher, at .£l5O per ammm, acei-plod. To ho appointed to school at Nermunby on arrival. It was resolved, that, on arrival of Mr Thomson, Mr Weiss should be instructed to take charge of Wiiennaknra school. Tiio examining committee reported Balance-sheet and Report satisfactory, and recommended its adoption. Adopted accordingly. School-house at Manutahi ordered to he completed in accordance with estimate sent to Croverijmcnt. Kakaramea school cottage to he lined, and other needed wok to he done to school and grounds. Secretary and working committee empowered to get dividing fence erected, and enquire as to other work required for Wiiennaknra school grounds. 'Tenders to bo called for clearing and sowing, if required, two acres ground around Carlyle and Ilawera schools, and for other specified improvements. The Hawera Building committee to bo empowered to have weather-boards of cottage dressed, if required (not to exceed certain price), and school chimney repaired. Notice of motion by Mr Milroy—“That upset price on section 7 Block 18, and section 10 Block 19, Township of Carlyle, be reduced from ,£2 to 10s.” Accounts were passed, and the meeting adjourned to 4th June.
PATEA WEST ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the above Board was held on Monday last. Present Messrs H. S. Peacock (in the chair) ; Corrigan, Gane, Hunter, E. J. Morgan, E. E. Morgan, and the Secretary (W. Dale). Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. Committee reported necessity for culvert on Mauutahi Road on bush road lately felled hy Mr Tullock. Expenditure agreed to. Committee reported that Mr Hanson’s contract,, so far, was satisfactory. Proposed deviation Kakaramea Road, had been examined, and it was considered inadvisable to carry out proposed work. Committee reported Mr Clifford’s contract not passed, the work not being satisfactorily performed. Agreed to S2>end £5 on Unibank’s Road. Marchant and Co.’s tender, for bush falling on Ball Road, at 13s per chain, accepted. Mr Chevene’s tender, for works on Tongahoe Road, £39, accepted. Tender for work on Taumaha Road, not accepted. Agreed that £8 should be spent. Resolved, That the sum of £lO, as appropriated, be sjieijt on the Wilson Road, the work to be executed by Mr Pearce, he having offered to assist the Board by giving labour to the amount of £5. To be under the supervision of Messrs A. Hunter, C. W. Cane, E. J. Morgan, and E. M. Honeyfielcl. Resolved, “That the proposed deviation on the Kakaramea Road, be abandoned, and that this Board impress on the New Board the necessity of at once opening up the original line. Also, that the Secretary inform Messrs Paterson, of passing of this
resolution, and obtain a promise that the present track will be kept open for traffic.” Accounts considered. Meeting adjourned sine die.
PATEA EAST ROAD BOARD. A MEETING of the above Board was held on Monday last, at the Secretary’s office, Carlyle. Present—Messrs Gibson (in the chair), Gower, Nicholson, Ridell, and the Secretary (D. if. Harris). Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. Resolved, that the Secretary instruct Mr W. Cowern to sue all defaulting rate payers in the 2Gth Road District. The Chairman and Secretary were deputed to arrange as to accounts and readjustment of boundary, and other matters between the Wairoa and 2Gth Road District. The Secretary was instructed to issue rate account over such land in the Wheuuakura District, as is proposed to he taken over by the 2Gth Road District from the Wairoa Board Mr Nicholson was appointed to inspect and pass in Mr McLanghlan’s contract. The Secretary was instructed to telegraph to the Executive Officer at New Plymouth, requesting him to appoint meeting of 2Gt;h Hoad District for 10 a.m., on 21st instant, as the time now fixed would clash with other Board meetings. Friday next, at noon, was appointed time to meet Chairman Wairoa Board, to settle as to disposal of rates, &c. Messrs Honeyfield and Hawkins account, £ll, for valuation, was laid before the Board. The Committee decided, that, as the above gentlemen had agreed to value the whole of tins 2Glh Road District for the sum of £lO, they wore not entitled to any extra amount for property within the district which they had not included in their first valuation. Board adjourned.
