PATEA DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL ASSOCIATION SHOW.

In last issue was published the names of prize winners, under the head of horses, cattle, and sheep, with a summary of winners in other classes. In to-day’s issue a full list of all entries and prize winners is given, together with the names and pedigree of such horses and cattle as were sent in There is but little need for remark on the Stock, as the entries will be a sufficient guide as to quality. Though there was but little competition in the matter of pigs, some very good specimens were on the ground. In farm implements there was a very poor show, being only eight entries. A plough shown by Messrs Cattormoro and Burston, of their own make, was worthy of note, as well for its neat yet strong app arance, as from the fact of its being the first made in Carlyle. Though the s.’iow of District produce was small, and the exhibiting booth of small dimensions, there was a amount of interest centred on the exhibits, particularly in regard to the samples of cheese and butter. That the cheese and butter exhibited was of good cpiality, there could bo no doubt. The difficulty was to decide satisfactorily which was the best. As tastes varied, so did opinions. The Messrs Gauo wore certainly deserving of high merit for the excellent quality of cheese and butter shown, and particularly for the artistic skill shown in the make-up of the butter exhibit. Very many of the visitors who saw and tasted both the batter and cheese shown by Messrs F. J. and G. W. Gane, voted that those gentlemen should have been awarded prizes. Allowance must, however, be made for the extreme difficulty of judging such articles, and the Judges must bo credited with having discharged a difficult task, according to their best judgment. The bread shown was greatly admired, and the verdict as to the awarding of the prizes, was very generally concurred in. It is questionable whether the appearance, or taste of the bread, was most admired. It is certain, that, bit by bit the whole lot disappeared. The samples of wool shown reflected great credit on Mr A. Ellis, of Kakaramea, w'ho had scoured the samples both for the Messrs Williamson, and Mcßae and Nicholson. In the matter of poultry, Messrs J. P. and G. W. Gano had it pretty well all their own way. The turkeys were generally admired, whilst credit was freely awarded for the trouble taken by the exhibitors in regard to the inside fittings of the boxes in which the poultry were cooped. We hope next year the weather will bo more favorable, and the District produce bettor represented. The following is a full list of the entries made, with names of prize takers .
