CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.
Tun regular monthly meeting of too above Board was hold on Monday evening, in the Court-house. JVescnt—Messrs. Sherwood (Chairman). Hirst, Tallin, Milroy. Rhodes. and McCarthy. Tin* minutes of the last montuly and special .meetings were road and confirmed. Correspondence. Lotar tr<>in tne Chairman of the County Council, asking the Board to furnish the Coum il with a copy of the valualiou list for their district, as required to be posted on the 15th inst., and also a return showing tlic total amount of general rates received by the Board during the year ending' Slat '[arch last. — Letter from Mr Cowern, Secretary pro. (cm. of Coindy Council, asking the Board whether they wished the services of the County Engineer, and if they were willing to pay a subsidy towards the salary ot such an official. A good deal of discussion took place on this question, and it was eventually decided, on a resolution by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Rhodes, ’‘That the Board oifer to pay the sum of .Tin per annum as their portion, for the services of an engineer.” Inspector of Nuisances report read, in which the inspector staled ho had given due notice to those parties in the town who were in the habit of blocking up the footpaths, &c. Mr Milroy proposed, seconded by Mr McCarthy, and carried—‘‘That tbo Clerk write, to the County Council, calling their attention to the dangerous state of the main road through the town, and request their immediate attention to having the same put in a lit state for public traffic.” Proposed by Mr Rhodes, seconded by Air Milroy, and carried—“ That the ‘Local Elections" Act, 1870,’ be brought into force by the Carlyle Town Board.” Mr Milroy considered this a good step, as by this means Provincial Acts would bo done away with, and the Board would now know what they were about.
The Chairman thought tlio Town Board was the first local body that had adopted the Local Elections Act, and congratulated the members on such a wise' slop. Proposed by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Hirst. ami carried —“'That the valuation list for the township of Carlyle, now before (he Beard, and cerlilied to by the valuer (Mr Aitehson). be. open for inspection at the Conrt-hoiise, ami that the same ho advertised in the Batha Mail, as provided in section I'l of the Rating Act.”
Mr McCarthy made an application for transfer of Ids lease, of block 43, to Mr Erskine. Granted. The amount of rates received np to tlio present time was then read, which only amonnt.cd to ,310, and a resolution wars passed to the etfect that all outstanding rates, after the loth instant, he sued foi. '[’he Chairman referred (o the valuable endowments recently made by the Government to the Towm Board, and said they would bring in a large revenue in a year or two. Ho also inform d the Board that the Crown .grants for the. laud recently leased by them had been forwarded to Wellington for the Governor's signature. The following- accounts were passed for payment : — P.vlt.a Mail, AT 7s ; Messrs Co worn ami Harris, .34 ; Harris, 138 Gs 8d ; Aitehson, ,30. The Board then adjourned.
