Curtin, on Thursday, sent for his sister, and expressed a desire that, after his execution, his body should bo handed over to liis friends for burial, instead of being interred in the gaol yard, liis representations have been forwarded to the Governor by Mr Pecs. A man named Rodgers, alias Armstrong, was charged in tbc R.M. Court this morning with having, about the 20tb March, 1808, murdered one William Mathers, alias Red Bill. The accused had been remanded from Wangarci, where be had given himself up to a constable as the murderer of Red Bill. Subsequently, however, he had denied the truth of the statement. Red Bill was found in a deserted shaft on the Karaka goldfield about the time above mentioned. The prisoner appears to be eccentric, if not insane. He was recognised by several persons in Court as having been amongst the pioneers of the Thames goldfield. Ho was remanded. WELLINGTON. February 6. All-England Cricket.—ln consequence of heavy rain all day play did not commence before 4 o’clock. There were then seven of Wellington to go in. In 17 min. these were all out for seven runs, which brought Wellington’s score upto 31, the 25 put up yesterday being a mistake. It should have been 24. Lokctt sent skier, which was missed by Hill at 4.35. Shaw and Selby went to the wickets, Armitagc and Cross bowling ; Mace wicket-keeping. Play continued til I 5.35, when Shaw was clean bowled by Cross, after having made 25, consisting of 2 hits for 4 (all to square leg), 3 threes, the rest singles. Selby’s were all singles but one 2.
