THE FRANCIS RELIEF FUND.
pro THE EDITOR OF THE PATEA MAIL.) Sir, — I saw a letter in a recent issue of the Patea Mail, commenting upon the above subject, and asking for information as to the disposal of the proceeds cf the collection, and entertainment, t, as Treasurer to the Committee, acted generally under their direction. I paid over to Francis, on several occasions, sums of money, until his recovery, when I had a large balance in hand. I was then requested by the Committee to ascertain how much Francis was indebted to the business people in this place, and to pay them in proportion, as far as the money would go. I paid several small accounts, but Francis objected to one of them as being incorrect. 1 then left the remainder of the accounts with him to correct, and which he was to give back to me. This, however, he has not done. I have still a considerable balance in hand, and I wish the Committee to meet and receive the same from me, and to finally decide in what manner it shall be disposed of.— Yours, &c. WILLIAM WILLIAMS. Carlyle, Jan. 23.
