OUR RESIDENT MAGISTRATE.

(TO THE KDITOII OF THE PATE A MAIL.) Fir,—l am informed that Mr It ray has been appointed R.M. for this district, and that Major Turner lias been told that Ids services arc not required any longer. It the above changes arc true, I should like to know what Major Turner has done, and what recommendation Mr Wray has to lit him for an office of such responsibility. It is true, our kite R.M. was not perfection, lint now we are going from had to worse. If it is necessary wa should have a change, surely a large and flourishing district like this is worth the attention of a gentleman in whom the settlers will repose confidence. It is a notorious fact, that Mr Wray is not popular here.—l am, Xe., Indignant. (to the editor of the ratea mate.) Sir, —Report says that the office of R.M. is to be taken from Major Turner, together with the office of Inspector of the Armed Constabulary. I have heard that when Major Turner was informed that he was to be struck olf the strength of the A.C., that he telegraphed to Wellington, asking if he still retained the office of R.M., when he received a reply to the effect that the office of R.M. went with the office of Inspector of the A.O. Force. Now, Sir, I should like to ask you how it was that, during the time that Major Noakc was suspended from his duties as Commander of the District (some four months, or more), he filled the office of R.M., and did not relinquish that office until he left the District to take command of the Wanganui Militia District ? This fact must clearly show that some underhand work has been used, to get a pot of the Government appointed in Major Turner’s place—which pet, if report speaks truly, resides in Carlyle, who for some time has been unfriendly to Major Turner, and is now to be appointed R.M, in his stead.—l am. Sir, &c., Justice.
