THE LATE MASONIC BALL.
(to the editor rate a mail.) Sir, —Now that the above ball has taken place, I, as a Mason, should like to say a few words on the subject. In every other part of the world, on such occasions, Masons are looked up to, and treated with a certain amount of consideration, considering it is through them the outside public have the means of enjoying themselves ; but at the ball on Friday evening last, ! was sorry to see most of the members of the Patea Kilwinning Lodge thrown out in the cold, owing to'the very bad taste of the invitation committee, in inviting only a certain class, who certainly had the monopoly of the ball room. It must be remembered that all Masons have not as yet reached the extreme height of what is called ‘‘ upper-tenism,” and those unfortunate enough not to belong to that class wore obliged to look on most of the evening, whilst the guests had the amusement; in fact, they seemed to think it their privilege. Those ladies that should have been there, do not seem to have had invitations at all, and I trust that if another Masonic ball is given in Carlyle, more attention will be paid to this part of the programme, thus avoiding cause of complaint.—l am, &c. A MASON.
