HAWERA.

( FROM OUR CORRKSI’O.NDKVr ) Oct. 1. I noticed in your issim of the 27th inst., a paragraph commenting on the dilapidated state of our Block-house, which I earnestly hope will have some effect, in having the evil remedied, As most people are aware the above mentioned structure lias been for a considerable time used as p'ace of worship by the various de lomiuations, and often during service the clergyman hj is to discontinue his discourse on account of the wind blowing on the illfastened iron roof. The noise of such last Sunday week was so great that the Eev. Law, wou'd not even attempt to commence his sermon, so those assembled had to retire to their respective homes minus their good teachers lesson. The contractor for the erection of our “ Scotch Kirk ” is now what you may term driving home the last nail, and will hand over the building to the church committee during the week. Great pains have been bestowed in the building and in every respect our Scotch brethren have to congratulate themselves in having such a desirable place of worship. I mentioned some time ago that My John Stevenson’s contract for the gravelling of the Ketemara Load had been accepted, and that the work would lie commenced as sooir as the fine weather set in, which I think has at last come, and if it continues to keep up, the contract will be gone on with during the ensuing ixl mth. At last we have been supplied with a much needed want, viz ; a wheelwright, in the person,of Mr. James A’Court, who has built a large shop beside bis brother’s and as the two ale to work in conjunction, we hope both may succeed in their new enterprisc. During the week a large number of store cattle have come from various parts of the island, to get fattened for the market, the owmers being Messrs Barber of Wellington, Mr. McMasters, and Mr. W; Bay ley.
