PUBLIC MEETING.
Two mootings wore held on Saturday evening last at the Town Hall, one in reference to County Boundaries, called by the Chairman of the Town Board, the other being called by Mr. Cowern, as Provincial Government Agent Owing to pressure on our space we are unable to <rivo more than n more outline of the proceedings. There was a very good attendance, and ])r. Croft, on being called to the chair, explained the objects for which the meeting’ hud been convened. 'Mr. Sherwood moved the first resolution as follows “ That this meeting strongly protests against any alteration of the proprosed Patea County Boundaries, as laid down in the first schedule of; the Counties Rill, and that.our member (Major Atkinson) be respectfully requested to use every effort to keep the boundaries as originally defined,” Mr Contis seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously.
On 1.1 10 motion of Mr Hirst, seconded by Mr Nicholson. it was roso'vcd that the above should bo at once jorwarded to Major Atkinson.
This part of (he proceedings concluded the business originally intended by tbe local people, and nnotber meeting, convened by the Provincial agent, then began, lb' Croft again being requested and consenting to fake the chair. Considerable discussion on railway and road communication took place, which resulted in the. following resolution being carried, on the motion of ATr Dale, seconded by Mr Coutts : —“That this meeting respectfully requcsls the Government to take immediate steps to complete the Wait a a and Wanganui rail wavs, and a’so make the Mountain road fit for traffic during the coming summer months.” On the suggestion of Mr Cnwern, the following addition was made—“ And that the roads be proceeded with by constm.etion from both ends simultaneously ” This concluded the business, winch wound up in a hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman.
