PATEA DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of members of the above association was hold at the Town Hall, Kakaramea, on Thursday last, there was a largo attendance of members picscnt. W. Wilson Esq., President of the Association occupied the chair. The Secretary read the following report : report. The committee of the above society, have now the pleasure to present to the members, the second annual report and balance-sheet. In presenting the report, the committee consider it is a subject for congratulation, that the society still shows every sign of being a permanent institution in the district. The annual show took place on the 17th March last, and was a great success, showing the interest that is taken in such matters by the settlers of this and the adjoining districts.
The committee have leased the paddock belonging to the Association for a term of five years, at an annual rental of of £8 i per annum, and the lessee is to lay it down in grass. The Treasurer’s accounts will be placed before you, showing a balance in the bank to the credit of the association of £79 7s 6d. After payment of all known liabilities, the estimated amount of funds to commence the new year, will be £4O 17s Gd. Under clause 4. of the rules of the association, you will now be called upon to elect a president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, and twenty members of committee for the ensuing year. AV. Dale, Hon. Secretary. Proposed by Mr Gibson, seconded by Mr P. J. Gane—“ That the report and balancesheet now read be adopted.”—Carried. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr G. AV. Gane in proposing that AV. AVilson Esq. bo re-elected president of the association for the ensuing year, said that he thought that the members could not do better than elect those who had so ably fulfilled their duties in the past. Mr Hawken seconded the nomination of Air AA 7 ilson, who was unanimously elected. Proposed by Mr Gibson, seconded by Mr J. G. Ginger—“ That 11. S. Peacock be re-elected vicoqwesident.”— Carried unanimous!}*.
Mr J. Gibson and Mr W. Dale were elected to the respective offices of treasurer and secretary. Thirty gentlemen were proposed as members of committee, and the following twenty were declared duly elected—Messrs E. R. Morgan, R. E. Mcßae, J. Morton, I. Livingstone, Cl Symes, A. Hunter, G. W. Gane, E. M Honeyfield, J. Ball; G. McLean, O. Hawes, J. G. Ginger, P. Wilson,
11. Williamson, E. J. Morgan, S. S. Broadbent, D. Gantts,'W. Henderson, J. Burke, and J. Dickie, jnnr. Mr E. M. HouoyJleld Iproposcd—“ That for the future the annual show he a Spring show, to he hold about the end of October, or beginning of November, the date to be fixed by the committee, and that a grain show be held in the Autumn if deemed advisable.”—Seconded by Mr P. Wilson. Mr A. Hunter proposed as an amendment —“That the annual show take place in the Autumn on or about the 17th March." Mr 11. Williamson seconded the amendment. After a long discussion in which a number of members took part, Mr Hunter’s amendment, was declared carried. After other matters connected with the society had been discussed, a vote of thanks was proposed to the chairman, which concluded the business of the annual meeting. A meeting of the newly elected committee was then held. Messrs Mcllac and E. 11. Morgan were nominated for the office of Chairman of committee for the ensuing year, and Mr Mcllao was elected. Proposed by Air E. 11. Morgan; seconded by Air Symcs —“ That the next meeting of the committee take place in November, the date to be fixed by the secretary.”
