WHAT FOR.
(TO Til 10 KlilTOk OV THE PATE A MAIL.) but, —According.to the report of proceedings in the House of, Ilepresentatives, it is proposed on the Abolition of Provinces, to give the discharged .(Superintendents two years salary. Now Sir, in the name of. common sense what is this for? Does the Govcrnmen t think*that men who have been Superintendents are unable to earn a livelihood in any other way, or, is there so much spare casli in the Treasury ehest that uses have to be invented for its 'disposal ? Have not the Strpcfs been" getting good salaries while in office ; and why then should they be entitled to further remuneration for services which have been paid for,, aye, and well paid too ? Perhaps some will say it is to be given in the place of the. usual notice between master and servant/ btit two years is rather long, and besides I think they have had good and iauffiluCnt Wainihg that thcir.serviccs would not be required after the end of the present session.-. ;.'Myown, opinion is, that in the present financial condition of the colony, Such a proposition should never have been thought 'of,'but let every man bo prepared when his services are no longer required , in one place, to at once look out for another situation, if he has not already saved up enough Of his earnings to set to work on liis ’ own hook: Besides, 1 think; it'is a kind ‘of insult to the Supers ; it seems alAiibst as ! if the- Government -were looking down in pity on their desolate condition. In Conclusion, would you, Mr’Editor, if 3 r ou .had-..one or . more mien too many, I say, would 3’oii on discharging them alter. ' proper notice, say here is two years wages for you, now be off. ' I am &c., piiotest:
