ENGLISH RACING.
We (Saturday have received the news of the success ot Petrarch in the T.vo Thousand Guinea Stakes at New market. When the last English nwff arrived the horse had gone back in the betting considerably, in consequence of a report that he had done nothing but walking exercise for live days. However he lias justified the position, wnich he has held ever since he Won the Middle Park Plate, of first favourite for the first important three-year old race of the year. He will no doubt, have been a tremendous favorite for the Derby, if he won the Two Thousand Guineas at all easily, and ho ought to have done this, as judging from two-year-old form he was “ a street’* in front of Julius Cresar. Lord Dupplin managed to run third, too, With Kaleidoscope, who Was thought by man}' English turf scribes to be good enough to win this race, if Petrarch was out of the way. We ought to receive the nows of the Derby any day now, and I shall bo surmised if Petrarch his pro vet I himself victorious over the longer distance of one mile and a half. This victory of the son of Lord Giifdcn and Laura ollgfit to enhance the value of Proto-Martyr and Auteros, as the one is half-brother to the Two Thousand victor, and the olher is out of ait own sister to Laura. The following are the conditions and the order in which the ’horses passed the post : Two Thousand Guinea Stakes, a subscription of 10U sovs. cacti, hj ft, for three-year-olds : colts, Sst 101b 5 fillies, Bst slbs, R.M.
