PATEA EDUCATION BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday last, all the members being present but Mr Christie. The minutes of last meeting were read •and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr Christie,' resigning his seat as a member of the Board. The resignation was accepted. It was then- proposed by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Mcßae, and carried—- “ That the election of a member to fill the place of Mr Christie take place at the next meeting of the Board.” Some correspondence, sent by Mr Brown, teacher at Kakaramea, accepting £l5O per annum for a full time school there under and stating that he expected £ls as salary for May, was read. He also declined to meet the Board on the subject. After discussion, Mr Milroy proposed and Mr Dale seconded the following resolution, which was carried :—“ That the secretary write to Mr Brown, asking him either to accept from the first of May last £l5O offered by the Board as teacher of a full time school at Kakaramea, or forward his resignation.” Mr Milroy proposed and Mr Coutts seconded the following resolution, which was carried;—“ That the rules and regulations as printed for the conduct of business and discipline of schools, be adopted, and that all members, teachers, and school committees be supplied whh a copy.”
.. A letter was received from Mr Brown* asking that, the Kakaramea schoolhouse should be lined. On the motion of Mr Mcßae, seconded by Mr Milroy, the secretary was instructed to inform Mr Brown, that the Board would line two rooms in the schoolhouse residence as soon aa suitable timber could be obtained. The question of examination of teachers was brought up, and on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Coutts, the following resolution was agreed to—“ That the secretary forward a circular letter to the teachers under the Board, informing them that an examination will bo held probably in July, of which due notice will be given. Candidates for the first and second classes, will be requested to send in a list of subjects at once, in accordance with clause 3 of the regulations. . On the motion of the Chairman, it was agreed that the . Royal School series of instruction books should bo added to the present list of books. An application was received from Peter Larsen offering to lease sections 5, 6, 11, and 12, in Block 2. The application was granted. Messrs Holtham and Warren, contractors for:the Kakaramea school, asked for an extension of time for completion till June 10th, The request was granted. ■ TENDERS. Tenders were opened and read for fencing the Kakaramea school reserve. The tender of Messrs Horner, at 13s 6(1 per chain, being the lowest, was accepted. FEMALE TEACHER AT MANUTAIIL Mr Milroy moved—“. That the secretary advertise for a female teacher the Manutahi school, at a salary per annum.” . The Chairman seconded the resolution, which was carried. The only other business was the consideration of some accounts, which were duly passed and ordered to be paid. The Board then adjourned till Monday, July 3rd. •
