CARLYLE TOWN BOARD.

(TO THE EDITOR OF THE PATEA MAIL.) Sir, —I notice that the question of who paid the costs in the case Ivess v. Carlyle Town Board is being discuiscd in your columns. The following may bo the correct solution of the question.at issue. Previous to the case being heard, it was stated by a prominent member of the Board, thatVveu should the case be decided against the Board, the ratepayers should not be the sufferers by having to pay the costs, so it may be that tire members have paid the costs between them, and that would account for the item (about £7), not appearing in the balance-sheet. I am, &c., RATEPAYER. Patea, May 2Cth, 187 G.
