PATEA EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION.

The polling for the election of two members to serve on the above Board, came off last Monday, at the respective polling booths, and the event was conspicuous for the absence of the orthodox electioneering tactics and activity generally displayed by candidates on such occasions, and the whole affair throughout may fairly be characterised for its tameness, and the supineness of the candidates. A poster, with the words, “ vote for Sonthby, the only independent and unprejudiced candidate,” was the only effort made to solicit the support of those who had the power of conferring the honour. As will be seen from the return of the different polling booths, Kakaramea and Manutahi, chiefly supported the local candidates (Messrs Mcßae and Williamson), while Carlyle and Hawem pretty well divided their support between Messrs Mcßae, Soutbby, and Coutts. The official declaration of the poll was made yesterday, but there were no speeches made. The following is the state of the poll :

c3 1 Izi B o a ci t*s > M 3 s •o c3 M s M o EH K, E. McRae 19 21 1)5 19 72 1). Ooutts 28 11 4 5 48 J. Southby 22 15 1 0 38 H, Williamson 4 4 10 19 37
