TO THE EDITOR OF THE PATEA MAIL. Sir, — I wish to draw your attention to a sad affair which came under my notice a day or two ago ; tbo facta of the “ cuso " art; as f .Hows; — An immigrant of the name of Power, who lately arrived here from Patca, took suddenly ill while working at the building in course of erection, intended for the Bank of New South Wale , a d ijAto the present is unable to leave las bed. The immigrant in question has a wife and child to provide, for, and consequently steps had to be taken in the matter fur their maintenance. Con. Coffey drew out a subscription list, which was headed with one pound by the proprietor of the Egmont Hotel, and within one hour the sum of £5 15s was collected, which will be of great assistance to the family. I think, Mr Editor, the authorities ought to inquire into the condition of these people, as the case in question deserves the greatest attention. I am, Sir, OLD RESIDENT. Tlawera, July 15.
