EXPLANATION.
Hear. Ye. Unto me.— This day is a day of praise of my Lord. A day of welcome, to the raising of Staff, (or rather Column) of the altar of the Sacred place, (i. e) the Staff of Authority of the King's Throne, finished this day, and now Stands upon this Hill. It is from the Token of 10, (God the supreme being). "We are only imitating tho Tawhito-raugi, Ancient Heaven (i.e. the staff is Handed down from Io). The Matarilri, Manukura. and Whakamarumaru, are all attentionin their Kauhanganui, and the gathering are aware of the 2nd [day of May, which is a 1 ready Notifiet by the Priest (Speaker of the Kauha nganui). Io now stands as the medium of the world, wb : eh is known and Handed down by the Sacred rites. SACRED RITES. His Staff is raised The Staff of old The Staff of the present Arise Tawhaki Tawhaki of Hema: &c. &c.; Which stood in the day of the Raising'of the Ancient. And now the "Ahurewa." King's Throne Stands for ever. Friend, why I show yo* this tiling, that you all may Hear, the Raising of this new Treasure. That we the descendants, may see the works of our Ancestors and parents, who are departed from usjdead. God save the King, Yours truly, TE PAKI 0 MATAEIKI. Te Ratauware, Translator.
