D.F.C., Croix de Guerre (formerly of Otago), has been appointed to the command of Northolt Air Station. He was prfeviously in command at Uxbridge Aerodrome (writes our London correspondent), and in 1929-30 he was chosen to. organise the striking Air Force pageant at Hendon. The Hector medal, which was awarded this year by the New Zealand Institute to Dr W. P. Evans, for his researches into coal, was presented at Wednesday s general meeting of the Wellington Philosophical Society. Mr B. C. Aston, president of the New Zealand Institute, made the presentation, and eulogistically referred to the work done by Dr -Evans. Mr C. Edgar Ford, who conducted the Trinity College of music examinations last year and was to have conducted them again this year, has been sent to Queensland to take the place of Mr Charles Schilsky, who has fallen ill. This year Dr Ford’s place will be taken by Mr Ronald Chamberlain, of London, who is due to arrive in New Zealand by the Makura towards the end of July. Advantage was taken of the opening ceremony on Thursday in connection with the exhibition in Cromwell of “ Made in NewZealand Goods ” to present to Miss Daphne Scheib the Royal Humane Society's certificate for saving from drowning Miss Von Tunzelman at Bluff in January, 1929. M.P. for Central Otago, made the presentation in an appropriate address, congratulating Miss Schieb on her plucky act and with it bringin - honoui* to her town and Central Otago At the Burnside stock sale on Wednesday reference was made to the death of Mr Alexander Scott, who for over 40 years had been a familiar figure in agricultural and pastoral circles in Otago. Kirk (Taieri farmers) also spoke. It was decided that a letter of condolence should be sent to the relatives. Mr Albert Charles Hollingworth has been appointed general manager of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, in succession to Mr F. T. Bridges. MrTlollingworth is a native of Sydney. He was educated at the Crown Street Public School, and entered the service of the society as a junior clerk on January I, 1883. He was sub-accountant for Victoria in 1904, and occupied a similar position at head office in 1906. Four years later he was transferred to London as resident secretary. In 1917 he was promoted to head office as assistant secretary, and became secretary in 1927. and manager for New South Wales in 1930. He is an associate of the Institute of Actuaries, England. In his younger days Mr Hollingworth was a keen oarsman. Air A. W. Sneddon, secretary of the society, has been appointed 'manager for New South Wales. Mr Vincent Wheatley is the new secretary
